A Moment Alone
A Moment Alone is the latest album in our ever expanding discography. The album was recorded in our house with a microphone set up in the middle of the room. Pete paced around the microphone while he played at varying distances to add a nice dynamic effect to the tone. This album filled a niche in our discography for a short and sweet meditative album.
What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing is the use of all the elements of music to increase the well being of a person. This includes the emotional, spiritual, physical and psychological elements of the music. Music has long been known to foster productivity and creativity within the listener. Certain instruments like the singing bowl can go a step further and induce healing within the listener. The consistent, steady tones of the bowl put our mind to ease by providing a sonic solid ground for our brains to hold on to. The singing bowl also facilitates meditation making it the perfect sound healing tool.
Meditation and Singing Bowl Sound Healing
Meditation is known to have an incredibly long list of benefits, including:
For this reason, Little Symphony wanted to create an album with one of the longest standing sound healing meditation inducing instruments - the singing bowl. We layered in synth textures as well as bird sounds recorded in our backyard to increase the therapeutic qualities of the album. I always find that the sounds of animals and nature are the most relaxing sounds that exist, and really help me to settle into my inner calm. For an album that captures some beautiful loon and other bird sounds, Athabasca is most definitely worth a listen as well.
Among the many benefits of singing bowl sound healing, I find that one of the most noticable is the increased clarity that follows a deep meditative session. This clarity feels like a warm bath surrounding your mind. All of the stress in your life settles to the bottom like sediment, allowing your thoughts to float alone in crystal clear water. With this sound therapy induced clarity, we can often see the best direction for our actions with great ease. I have already listened back to A Moment Alone a few times, and each listen has returned me to that warm state of clarity as if it were the first time I had heard the singing bowl.
Sound Healing Induced Nidra
Nidra, also known as yogic sleep, is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. Nidra involves the practitioner building an awareness of their inner self and withdrawing the senses, with the exception of the auditory sense. Maintaining this auditory sense on something with sound healing properties, like the singing bowl, can create a blissful state of unconscious presence.
As someone still in the beginning stages of my meditation journey, this was a state of being that I hadn’t experienced before. Through Peter’s thoughtful playing of the singing bowl, I was able to achieve a deep state of nidra. You can actually hear me snoring peacefully in the background during the song Sarteneja! Despite my snoring, I wasn't actually asleep, but actually in some deep state of relaxation somewhere between sleep and meditation. By including sparse synth textures to this album, we are further encouraging the listener to achieve this similar state.
Meaning of "A Moment Alone"
We spent quite a while on finding the name “A Moment Alone”. Once we had suggested the name, it was an obvious yes. This album is our attempt to capture that quiet solitude and introspection. This album is a reminder to carve out time for yourself in the day for a moment of reflection. A consistent daily session of meditation inducing sound healing can have profound effects on a person’s well being overtime. We invite you to let A Moment Alone be this reminder in your life and to be your sound therapy.
Restoring Your Mala Beads
Mala beads are a beautiful representation of devotion to a meditation practice. The beads themselves have a strong ability to store and maintain energy. By meditating, practicing good karmic deeds or simply living consciously and presently while wearing a string of mala beads, we can infuse the mala with good energy. On the other hand, if your beads have been neglected, left in a dark place or on the floor for a long time, or if you have continued interactions with negative people, the mala can start to store negative energy. It is common practice to restore mala beads to a neutral or positive state by using the healing qualities derived from the sound of a Tibetan singing bowl. If you do not have a singing bowl of your own, listening to A Moment Alone while meditating with your beads can become a great restorative practice for your mala.
