8 Hour Deep Sleep features a variety of our best nature recordings and music. You will experience crashing ocean waves of the Juan De Fuca Trail, majestic loons from Narrow Lake, AB and an assortment of other rain, creek, bird, and bug sounds.
If you don’t typically sleep for a full 8 hours, then have no fear. Please know that we also have a 9 Hour Sleep Playlist, 6 Hour Sleep Playlist and 1 Hour Sleep Playlist for those of you who would prefer a different length.
Why is Bedtime Music Beneficial?
Our 8 Hour Deep Sleep playlist is perfect for bedtime reading or chilling as well. You can start the playlist beforehand and let the pleasant sounds of nature and ambient music soak into your subconscious while you get sleepy. As any of our long term readers already know, nature sounds and ambient music are both known to reduce stress levels and aid in relaxation. The mixing of the two makes for the perfect sleep aid.
When your body is stressed, cortisol is produced. Cortisol and stress drive the fight or flight response. Both of these responses are not ideal for sleep as they are biological adaptations to ensure us humans are ready to tackle the dangers that lie ahead. Although heroic sounding, these feelings are not welcome when trying to get to sleep. Luckily, people who listen to the sounds of nature are able to reduce their heart rate, lower muscle tension and experience overall reduced levels of stress. All of this adds up to a deeper and more restful sleep.
In addition to the sleep benefits of nature sounds, the ambient music mixed into our albums contributes as well. With a BPM (beats per minute) of 60-68, our albums intentionally play at about the same rate as the human adult heart rate when asleep. This further aids the listener to calm down.
With all that said, we encourage you to try out our 8 Hour Deep Sleep playlist tonight. With any luck, you will feel the calming effects of the nature sounds and music while you drift off into a deep slumber. In the morning, make sure to leave us a comment in our comments section about how great your sleep was ;)

Microphone Upgrade and the Juan de Fuca trail, BC
At this point we purchased a Zoom H4n Handy Field Recording microphone. Now we could record sounds wherever we wanted with ease! The microphone arrived just in time for my trip to Vancouver Island with my girlfriend, Sydney. We hiked the Juan de Fuca trail on the Western coastline of Vancouver Island. The hike was stunning and the sounds were beautiful. Many of our albums like Sombrio and Bear Beach were created using sounds from this trip. It feels good to have self-recorded sounds from two different provinces, but as the nature lovers we are, we felt the need to keep expanding.
Pete’s Trip to South America
In October 2018, Pete boarded a plane in Edmonton and flew down to Ecaudor. Although not travelling solely for the purpose of recording sounds, the Zoom H4n and a pack of 48 batteries was tucked away in his backpack. At the time of writing this post, Pete is still on his trip so we do not have any sounds to show you yet. These sounds will be coming in early 2019 when he is back and we have had a chance to write music for them. This trip will officially launch Little Symphony into 2 continents of self-recorded sounds. We are deeply excited about these additional nature sounds.
North America Tour… and World Tour?
With the ever-growing listenership of Little Symphony, we plan to keep focusing on broadening our sonic palette. Since things are looking promising, it is more and more viable that Pete and I can make Little Symphony a decent sized chunk of our lives. With this increased independence from 9-5 jobs comes the feasibility of taking lots of time to travel and record sounds.
My initial thought is to canvas Canada and the United States of America, recording as many nature sounds as possible. As proud Canadians, recording sounds all over our own country seems like a valiant and fulfilling thing to do. Between these two North American countries, there is a vast and diverse difference in landscape and ecosystems, which should provide us with near infinite different soundscapes. We have tentatively planned this excursion for the summer/early fall of 2019.
If we can continue to grow thanks to the support of listeners and readers like yourself, then we will be able to turn Little Symphony into our careers. At this point when the financials were in order, I would gladly tour further and further from home to continue expanding our discography. It is a goal of mine to record in as many places on earth as possible. With additional planning and free time we could capture sounds outside of our typical realm of nature sounds too, such as the Running of the Bulls in Spain, or New Years fireworks in New York Square.
So as you have seen it has been quite a journey for us so far. We will continue to take steps a little further than the last to continue expanding what we do. We want to reach as many listeners as possible and facilitate as many people as possible to use the relaxing and therapeutic qualities of our music.
So once again, thank you for those of you who are reading this right now. Thank you for listening to our music and for reading our blog. Without your support, none of this adventure would be possible in the first place. As one nature lover to another, thanks for helping spread the sounds of nature to as many ears as possible.
The 1 Hour Deep Sleep Playlist will feature songs with a tempo of 60-68 BPM’s, lining up with the average human resting heart rate. This is no different than our 8 Hour Deep Sleep Playlist.
As always you can find our music on our Spotify page, or play it right here in your browser.
Please let us know what you think of our condensed and shortened deep sleep playlist. We would love to hear what you think on our suggestions page and will make sure to consider each and every suggestion.
Thank you for reading our blog and for supporting our music. We wish you a deep and restful sleep tonight.
Why Listen to Music with Nature Sounds while reading?
Nature sounds have long been recognized to reduce stress levels and increase focus and productivity. A recent study by Erin Largo-Wright and colleagues showed that people listening to nature sounds at work even for just 15 minutes experienced a reduction in muscle tension, heart rate and self reported stress. This phenomena forms the basis of Little Symphonies mission, which is to create quality nature music using nature sounds recorded all over the world.
Our Background Reading Music playlist includes only the most calming nature sounds and ambient music in our discography, making it the perfect choice to help lower your stress levels while at work or when unwinding at home.
Will the Background Reading Music Playlist be Distracting?
The answer is likely, no.
As someone who struggles to read while listening to conventional music, I have ensured that the music Little Symphony creates will sink down into your subconscious. The melodies are intentionally left simple and sparse, and the instrument tones are docile and calming to avoid any sudden surprises. In fact, I have been writing this blog post while listening to one of our newer albums, Bear Beach, which is on our Background Reading Music playlist. I can safely say that it has helped me focus.
At the end of the day, the best way to find out if our Background Reading Music playlist is right for you is to give it a try the next time you read.
Future Reading Playlist Ideas from Little Symphony
As our discography continues to expand from efforts such as Pete’s trip to the Amazon Rainforest, we plan to provide more and more reading playlist options to our listeners. As we get more wave sounds, we will create full playlists of oceans. As we get more rain, we will have playlists dedicated to rain. As we get more birds sounds… you get the idea! Our goal is to eventually cover the entire world to record a range of sounds so broad that every single person on earth could find something they want to listen to.
Having shared this most grandiose goal with you, I invite you to help us on this quest. If there are certain sounds that you would like to hear on our reading playlists (or any playlists for that matter) please let us know on our Suggestions form. At the end of the day we are recording nature sounds and making background music for our listeners. We want to provide as much value to you as possible.

Why is Sleep Music for Children Important?
On average, children need more sleep than adults as they are still developing and growing. Our Relaxing Sleep Music for Kids playlist features over 8+ hours of music and flows seamlessly from one song to the next. Both the seamless quality and the length of the playlist will ensure that beginning this playlist at bedtime will help your child stay asleep for the entire night. Many people will choose to play music for their children that include songs such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc. These kids sleep songs are a solid choice, although they are missing out on an additional element of sound that is important to the human brain. In addition to music, Little Symphony combines nature sounds into our mix. The combination of music and nature sounds creates the perfect soundscape for sleep. The music provides a soothing and calming experience, while the nature sounds are proven to reduce stress and aid in directing focus outward. This is especially helpful for children who have a tough time turning their active minds off at night.
Our Relaxing Sleep Music for Kids playlist was created with many considerations in mind. Here is a list of the features that went into the making of our sleep music playlist:
Pete and I wish nothing more than to create a music resource that will people relax, de-stress, sleep better, meditate, read, study, and all the other things where nature inspired music are applicable. With the addition of sleep music for children initiative, we are happy to expand into this new frontier.
Feedback and Suggestions
Please let us know if you have any suggestions or questions about our children’s sleep music initiative or our Relaxing Sleep Music for Kids playlist. We welcome all feedback as it is our goal to keep improving.
As always, thank you for reading our blog and listening to our music. Have a great day!
Bear Beach was the perfect place to stop and reflect. The crisp ocean air mixed with these beautiful wave sounds left me in a calm and pensive mood for most of the day. As many of our consistent readers know, I listen back to our discography on a regular basis. Bear Beach has become a staple of mine when I need a quiet moment to think.
We have added Bear Beach to many of our playlists as it is the perfect compliment for sleep, study, work, meditation, or any other situation calling for steady ambient sounds. Stay tuned for a full Juan de Fuca playlist featuring all of the albums recorded out on the trail, like our first Juan de Fuca release, Sombrio. I am excited to share the entire series with you and look forward to future backpacking adventures to capture more and more elaborate sounds. I look forward to Pete’s return from the Amazon Rainforest and the incredible nature sounds he will be bringing back with him.
As always, thanks for reading our blog and for listening to our music.
For me human voices are one of the biggest sources of distraction. I find it very difficult to read, write or do other tasks when I can hear people talking or when listening to music with lyrics. When Pete and I set out to create Little Symphony part of the inspiration was to create a reliable discography that was packed full of focus-inducing music. The ambient recorded sounds such as waves on Sombrio Beach, or the loons on Narrow Lake, mixed with warm ambient synth pad sounds provide a nice cover for other noises. These sounds are designed to slowly integrate into your subconscious, serving as a non-intrusive blanket to protect your ears from other stimulus.
The Ultimate Solution to Blocking Distractions
As a student who admittedly doesn’t devote much time to my studies, it is important than on the rare occasion I am studying I get a lot done. As mentioned before, external noises such as voices in the study halls or my roommates at home banging around in the kitchen can distract me easily. Luckily I schemed up a solution to the problem. I bought a set of reusable ear plugs and slip them on underneath my over ear headphones. Through the headphones I play Little Symphony music at a decently high volume. The result is a pleasant volume of music (since the earplugs block some of the music as well) with 0 outside noises. This technique has revolutionized the amount of productivity I can achieve and I would highly recommend giving it a try! Our Perfect Concentration playlist is the perfect playlist to try it with… It’s even in the name for Peter’s sake!
With this in mind, we hope that our Perfect Concentration playlist will serve you well with your work or studies. We wish nothing more for our ambient music and nature sounds to do the same for you that it does for us. If you are interested in our other top playlists, you can find more here. For individual albums, our complete discography can be found here.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read our blog. Happy reading and thank you for listening to Little Symphony.
Benefits of Calming Music for Babies
Music has long been known to have incredible benefits on human development, especially in regards to the development of babies and children. Recent studies have suggested that music has intellectual, physical, emotional, spatial, and cognitive development benefits for babies. The stimulus of music creates new neural pathways in babies, as well as strengthening existing pathways. This leads to heightened creativity and cognitive abilities.
So why then does our Calming Music for Babies playlist benefit babies so much? Little Symphony uses two separate sound concepts to encourage the relaxation and development of babies. Our music is created by mixing naturally recorded sounds, like the loons found in Athabasca, or the trickling stream sounds found in Sombrio, with ambient music. The music as mentioned before has substantial effects on a babies development. The addition of nature sounds work to stimulate the brain in another way. As well as providing relaxation and inducing a state of calm, waves, streams, birds and other such nature sounds have a less predictable rhythm than music, which stimulates the brains senses. This makes the combination of the two a truly powerful combo, especially when considering babies.
