This album was a reminder in my life that being at home isn't a bad thing. It's easy to get caught up in life wishing you were on a vacation or somewhere else. However when you take a quiet moment to breathe and reconnect with your surroundings, you can often times surprise yourself with the beauty of the moment. The goal of Little Symphonies complete discography is to help you reconnect to that quiet calm within us all.
Dia Vago was the gentle reminder I needed to stay present and appreciate what I have. Just like we can't predict the rain or the weather, we can't predict life's big events either. The best we can do is take it in stride. Some days the world moves quick and some days the world moves slow. There's no need to pass any judgement as every moment has it's place.
Rain Music Therapy
Rain music is steadily becoming one of my favourite flavours of ambient music. I find that the pitter patter of the rain punctuates the ambient pad sounds and injects a lot of movement into the sound. Rain is a naturally therapeutic sound and has always been a comforting sound. Dia Vago is definitely one of my new favourite albums.
The interesting thing about sound is that most of it's effect is rooted deeply in biology. Sudden and loud sounds such as car horns or dog barks tend to cause us anxiety. The abruptness alerts our fight or flight response and calls us to action.
In contrast to this, sounds such as rain or waves are deeply relaxing and calming. This is because the steady pattern of the sound works its way into our subconscious mind and our bodies assume the rhythmic nature of the sound must be a non-threat. The recordings of Little Symphony naturally gravitate to sounds like rain so that our music can inspire that sense of calm.
Dia Vago makes for the perfect album to help you relax on a quiet day. It is also great for reading and meditation. I have had many calm afternoons listening to this one again recalling the memories of the day it was recorded. My hope is that the gentle rain will whisk you away into a similar state of calm.
